Check out the first in an ongoing series of short docs we’ll be making in between commercial and broadcast work.
Oliver is one of the finest and last-remaining cooking range restorers in Britain: based between Bristol and Bath, he spends his days bringing the old stoves roaring back to life. His extensive knowledge of the ranges and their historical significance has luckily learnt him a high demand for work, but this was never without the painstaking and meticulous mastering of his craft. Now he is one of the last three remaining restorers in Britain—what challenges does his craft face and is there a hope to overcome them?
“Lost Industry” chronicles the gradual loss of the finest crafts in Britain and meets some of the passionate and highly skilled champions who are keeping the hearts of these trades beating. Across the journey of each episode we come to learn the great value and significance of each person’s work and realise that the passing of a craft does not only reflect the loss of a person’s life story and thousands of hours of experience, but a loss in national identity and history too.
