A Good Job

When we were approached by TUC Cymru to produce their Congress film for May 2022, we leapt at the opportunity. The message is one we care about; everyone in Wales deserves a good quality job – and they need this now more than ever.
We took on the brief and developed a fresh idea, working on all production elements from creative development, all the way through to final delivery.
The overriding goal of the film was to reach beyond union members with a message that makes people feel positive toward the union movement. Specifically, we needed to reach young people of working age in Wales, while producing something that speaks to the wider demographic too – politicians, the media and the general public, who can recognise and identify with the TUC’s policies.
As a Welsh and Cardiff-based video production company whose values align closely with those of unions, this project spoke to us right from the get go. Our idea was to draw on the strengths of previous TUC films and add to them, producing a stylish and energetic film that engaged viewers in a direct tone.
We made a point of putting together a strong cast of seven actors aged 18 – 35, ensuring the cast was reflective of a diverse Wales, considering Language, Gender, Sexuality, Ethnicity and Ability. The tone from our actors was empowered, confident, personal and direct, with a range of characters seen in all sorts of roles from coach drivers and delivery riders, to lecturers and engineers. The idea at all times was to speak candidly with a wide audience.
To underline this, we put together a concept that saw each of our characters deliver staggered lines to camera, making up one interconnected statement. By the end of the film, all our characters have answered “What Makes A Good Job?”
Our client was really pleased, and in addition to being released online, the film went on to play at the TUC’s Annual Congress for Union Members in Wales.
