The Jean Makers

We love Hiut Denim. We own a lot of their jeans, but we’re also deeply inspired by their story and philosophy. In the same way they aspire to only to make the best jeans in the best way possible, we’ve only ever aspired to specialise at high quality video creation, with a fair and transparent approach – and we think we’re doing a damn good job of it.
So when we were looking to make a documentary as part of our Lost Industry’s series, they were top of our list – and much to our joy Hiut Denim were open to collaboration. The plan was to tell the story of how Hiut came to be. For that, we needed to go further back in time, when Cardigan was home to a factory that created 35,000 jeans a week.
We set out to Cardigan and spent a day at the old factory shooting with Claudio, Jean Cutter, and founder, David Hieatt. Claudio provided the emotive back story, having worked in the old factory before it was shut. David added to this, telling us their plans for the future and how he wanted to get the town making great jeans again.
The final film is one of our most watched video productions, it was released via Hiut Denim’s popular and much-loved newsletter.
