Sometimes you do a project because it’s a story worth telling – that’s exactly the case with this short documentary. While researching amazing people in Wales, we came across Portuguese-born Celso Fonseca.
Having had a traumatic childhood and then later in life suffering multiple physical attacks resulting in a PTSD diagnosis, Celso found himself homeless on the streets of Cardiff. In spite of this, Celso was able to find the courage and support to beat multiple long distance cycling records.
Wanting to make a high end doc that resembled an Adidas or Nike commercial we pulled some favours with Bristol Based camera rental company Cinewest. Over a packed production day, we darted around South Wales and Cardiff shooting Celso cycling. On another day he welcomed us into his home where we filmed his daily routine – all focused around cycling and training. We combined this all with a really powerful candid interview.
Soon afterwards we were offered the opportunity to pitch the idea to ITN for Channel 4 news. They accepted based on our footage and Celso’s powerful story and the film was broadcast on Channel 4 news, watched by nearly half a million viewers.
